getting enough sleep? dream on.

on an everyday level, sleepy ppl makes mathematics errors, break things & become cross with their families, friends & colleagues. less commonly, they make mistakes with tragic consequences.

adults need to sleep one hr for every two hrs awake, which means that most need about 8hrs of sleep a night. of course, some ppl need more & some less. children & teenagers need an average of about 10hrs.

the brain keeps an exact amount of how much sleep it is owed. accumulated lost sleep is like a monetary debt: it must be paid back. if you get an hour less than a full night's sleep, you carry an hr of sleep debt into the next day, & your tendency to fall asleep during the day becomes stronger.

a morning person may deal with a need for extra sleep by going to bed early rather than trying to sleep late into the next morning. a night person may not be able to fall asleep if he/she went to bed early, & wld be better off making up sleep debt by rising as late as possible.

i don't think i've paid back any of my sleep debt. everyday sleep at 1am, wake up at 5.45am. i don't sleep in the afernoons, so there.

au revoir~

with love, lydiana
